Christian Povey Counselling
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, I know firsthand how difficult it can be. Counselling offers a safe, confidential, caring space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. It can be very beneficial to talk openly and confidentially to someone whose life and relationships are completely separate to our own, research shows us that “the relationship is the therapy.”
I can help you gently work through your issues by listening attentively without judgement of how things really are for you. Working relationally I provide a caring and supportive space for you to explore your inner world so you are able to find your own unique way of moving forward.
I'm a qualified integrative counsellor, trained in both the person centred and psychodynamic approaches, this enables me to tailor my way of working to your individual needs. I have experience working with a wide range of issues including anxiety, stress, depression, relationship difficulties, suicide ideation, clients affected by rape and sexual abuse, clients living with HIV, and chemsex users; to name but a few...! I also have a particular interests in LGBTQ issues, HIV counselling and trauma (recent and historical).
Alongside my private practice I also work as a counsellor for a local sexual health charity and as a crisis counsellor as part of an Employee Support Programme for a major international airline. I’m a fully registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). This is very important as it means that I’m bound and adhere to their ethical framework for good practice and code of conduct.
Contemplating making initial contact with a counsellor may feel daunting, I myself have been there too. Please feel free to contact me in complete confidence. I offer a free 15 minute phone conversation for prospective new clients, then in your own time you can decide if I’m the right counsellor for you.
